Cermex, for comprehensive packaging equipment solutions
Marc Ville, Cermex’s new Managing Director
Marc Ville became CEO and Managing Director of Cermex with effect on July 1, 2011. He succeeds Jean-Félix Lesueur, who has been given a new assignment within Sidel, Cermex’s parent company. In his new role, Marc Ville will report to Philippe Lejeune, Cermex Group Chairman & EVP in charge of Sidel’s Food Home Personal Care (FHPC) division.
Marc Ville has been in the Tetra Laval Group for the past 12 years, most recently as Vice-President of the Industrial Program for Sidel since 2009. This nomination comes at a key moment in the history of Cermex, an expert in end-of-line packaging, which for the past year has undertaken the modernization of its design and production tools and the adaptation of its organization in order to fulfill its global ambitions.
Marc Ville, a vocation for industry
At 48, Marc Ville is married and the father of three children. After graduating from the École Nationale Supérieure de Chimie in Paris, he began his career with Michelin and then Lafarge, serving respectively as Process and Quality Engineer and Production Manager. He then spent six years in the automotive parts industry before joining the Tetra Laval Group 12 years ago. Marc Ville has been Director of the Tetra Pak plant in Dijon, Managing Director of Sidel Malaysia and Vice-President of Industrial Operations in Beijing. For the past two years, he has been Vice-President of the Industrial Program for Sidel.
Pursuing the optimization started a year ago
Since his arrival at the head of Cermex, Marc Ville has witnessed firsthand the extent of the skills and commitment that have made the company successful for the past 35 years. He is pursuing the changes already underway, with the goal of completing them as soon as possible. His first decisions are aimed at “enhancing the internal visibility of projects and ensuring that everyone takes ownership of concepts and methods.” In this way, Marc Ville is hoping to accelerate Cermex’s growth by relying on in-house synergies: human capital, technological innovation and customer proximity.
Cermex adapts in order to fulfill its ambitions
As an expert in end-of-line packaging solutions, Cermex has launched a two-fold change program in the past year:
- To boost its production system with a view to significant reduction in order fulfillment time,
- To review its organization in order to improve information flows and to get closer to the most promising markets.
The order fulfillment time reduction program was started in 2008 with the move to three-dimensional (3D) design. It has continued with the introduction of a modular architecture approach as product ranges are being renewed. The modernization of the production system was then launched in 2010, with all teams being run on the principles of continuous improvement (World Class Lean Enterprise, or WCLE) and shared management of product information (Product Lifecycle Management, or PLM).
The creation of Cermex France in 2011 promotes industrial, administrative and financial synergies between the Lisieux plant, which specializes in shrink wrapping, and the Corcelles-lès-Citeaux plant, which focuses on crating and palletizing. Thanks to the opening of branch offices in India and Mexico in 2011 and then in Brazil in 2012, internationalization is bringing Cermex closer to its customers, for both sales and services.
Cermex has adopted an organizational model that promotes cohesiveness, at the service of innovation and industrial efficiency, while better taking into account the diversity of expectations and markets. Marc Ville has joined a company that is moving quickly, mobilizing its managers and teams in order to ensure the successful passage to a new dimension that is even more open, effective and flourishing.
