Increased benefits of Vision for Loading Systems
Cermex has been proposing and integrating vision systems in its case packing range for several years now. The gains acquired by installing such solutions no longer need to be proved.

Two multinational pharmaceutical laboratories have recently purchased loading applications from Cermex and its suppliers which demonstrate perfectly the increased benefits of vision solutions.
Application 1
Project details:
- 8 cartons with small dimensions
- Side-loading into RSC
- Speed up to 300 products per minute with collations up to 120 products per packaging in 2 piles
Customer requirement:
- Control of the correct position and number of products in the packaging just prior to sealing
Solution proposed:
The solution is composed of two ‘camera and laser beam’ units, each assembled on a motorised system so as to sweep in 3D the 2 product piles. One unit is fitted at the product infeed/stacking station and the second unit is fitted at the case loading station.
The system offers more advantages than a check-weighing installation which is not very reliable for products that are so light. This adaptation was accomplished without specific lighting, opaque lateral transfer plates insulate from external light sources.

- No setting of the camera and laser beam required for format changeovers
- Fault history recorded to improve traceability
- Simple system for repositioning and replacing the camera to improve customer autonomy in terms of maintenance
Application 2
Project details:
- Plastic 50, 100, 200 and 500 ml bottles of injectable liquid for MRI, i.e. delicate and very expensive products
- Side loading into a complete wrap around case
- Speed: 150 products/minute
Customer requirement:
- Control of the correct number of products in the case
- Control of the presence of a cap on the bottle
- Control of the correct insertion of a leaflet, whether lying flat or on edge, in each case
Solution proposed:
- Integration of two vision systems (camera and lighting), one at the case loading station and one at the case sealing station.
Advantages:
- Same technology for two types of control
- Reduced footprint by doing away with the integration of a check-weigher for controlling the number of products in the case
- Accuracy and reliability in controlling the presence of the leaflet which falls at random into the blank
- Size changeovers made easier by integrating the vision data in the formats managed by the machine PLC (no manual intervention required on the cameras and lighting)
- User-friendly
