Cermex, for comprehensive packaging equipment solutions
Cermex develops a new range of
End Of Line machinery
for flexible products and food trays
for flexible products and food trays
I – TARGETED MARKETS
Thanks to years of expertise in the food sector and a close eye on market trends, Cermex has developed a complete range for strategic targeted markets: processed food products in flexible plastic packaging (pouches, flowpacks, sachets) or semi-flexible packaging (thermo-formed sealed trays).
II – WHY THESE MARKETS?
Pêle-mêle, some convincing data:
- In terms of flexible packaging
+ 21 % average annual growth in the food sector! (+ 12 % outside this sector) for differentiating packaging applications with a high convenience value. - In terms of pots and sealed trays:
a 43% increase in the French vacuum packing market between 1997 and 2001!
III – KEY SUCCESS FACTORS FOR THE AUTOMATION OF CASE PACKING
A growth market is not always mature for end of line mechanisation and yet a certain number of indicators open up the possibilities for automating the secondary packaging.
IV – PACKAGING TRENDS NOTED BY CERMEX
- Most of the food sector’s key players multiply various types of packaging for the same product. This is a basic trend that can be considered as irreversible.
- In the same way, multiplying ‘extreme’ formats from the single product to the family pack or bulk formats for catering purposes is also a trend with significant consequences on the choice of secondary packaging as well as its mechanisation.
- Out of all industries, the non-liquid food sector has the highest renewal rate in terms of packaging.
- The predominance and constant growth in the use of flexible packaging in all its forms for food products!!!
V - MECHANISATION TRENDS: WHICH CASE PACKER FOR THESE MARKETS?
Studies carried out by Cermex showed it was necessary to:
- handle and collate products arriving on several lanes (2 lanes in general)
- Proposer des solutions d’encaissage rentables à « faibles et moyennes » cadences (60 à 120 ppm),
- handle several product and packaging formats (3 to 5 formats for example).
- Whilst remaining compact, versatile and ergonomic.
- handling all types of secondary packaging: case, tray, wrap-around…
- with varying mechanisation principles: pick + place top loading, side loading, etc.
VI- CERMEX OBJECTIVES
Create a new ‘open’ range from the start of the R&D study: incorporating both modular (1 machine = single function) and monobloc multi-function (1 machine = several functions integrated) machines while maintaining our current technical coherence.
This objective led to the creation of a library of solutions.
VII - R. & D. STRATEGY DEFINED
- Capitalise on the wealth of solutions within our current machine range!
- Focus efforts on product handling and pre-collation.
- Transverse certain functions from one machine to another
By creating numerous combinations on the basis of 5 main families:
- Product Infeed = development of vision systems specific to food in addition to conventional solutions
- Collation = patent pending
- Pick & Place Arms = integration of several exogenous and endogenous solutions
- Tooling = Cermex expertise
- Frame = Synthesis of the company’s developments over the last two years
It is by associating an element from each family that Cermex forms the ideal solution (and not the single machine or concept).
VIII - CONCLUSION
The creation of this library enables unique and differentiating solutions, while maintaining a principle of technical coherence dear to Cermex.
Exactly what the food industry expects from a complete case packing range!!!
