System CESAM
For CERMEX-OC, 2000 has proved to be the year for a major turning point in the development of TS-type range of equipment (seal-less shrinkwrappers). The control unit of this generation of equipment has been entirely computerised and specially designed, now offering an innovative machine control system.
This application has been especially developed to meet the requirements of the customer, always anxious to provide his operators and his maintenance staff with a user friendly interface.
The control unit consists of a computer, a touch screen display panel, input/ output modules and intelligent inverters. The system connection is operated via field buses and the automation (based on Visual Plc) is run directly by the software on a real-time basis.
This new control system, designated CESAM (Conduite Et Supervision Avec Maintenance) has been developed entirely by the CERMEX-OC Design Office Team, based at the Lisieux plant in Normandy. It offers a complete range of operations, including:
- Alarm monitoring (display, statistics,...)
- Historical records (productivity, output, tunnel temperature, etc)
- Fault diagnosis (Input/ Output position, field bus position)
- Real-time machine program on display (makes spotting errors easier)
- Maintenance schedule with reminder flashes
- Product format management
- Remote-maintenance (via modem) based on "PC Anywhere" software.

As soon as may 99, the decision was taken to fit the TS machine range 2000 with a fully computerized machine control system run from a PC and with intelligent inverters. This technology replaces the former "trio" machine PLC, numeric link and numeric display. The second half of the year 99 has been dedicated to developing jointly the monitoring system and the inverters program (the latest being the core part of the system).
In January 2000, one year after the project was launched, Ferrero Company was the first Cermex O.C. customer to work with shrink-wrappers controlled by the new CESAM system on her production plant in Villers-Ecalles (76 - France), where the chocolate spread "Nutella" is produced.
For CERMEX-OC, the year 2000 will be the CESAM year, as the whole range of TS-type shrink-wrap machines will be fitted with CESAM application as a standard and because many other exciting innovations will be implemented, thanks to the fact that CESAM is run directly from a PC.
